Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held an important trade-focused meeting in Dhaka with Bangladesh’s Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin and other senior officials. The session brought together representatives from both countries to explore ways of boosting trade, investment, and overall economic cooperation across multiple sectors. The meeting marked a significant step toward strengthening commercial ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The meeting was also attended by Pakistan’s Minister of Commerce, along with high-level Bangladeshi officials representing major state trade institutions. These included the Governor of Bangladesh Bank, the Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, the Chairman of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh, and the Acting Vice Chairman of the Export Promotion Bureau. Their presence underlined the importance of the dialogue for both sides.
In addition, top officials such as the Secretaries of Commerce and Aviation, and the Chairman of the National Board of Revenue, also joined the discussions. Both delegations highlighted the need to enhance collaboration in various fields including aviation, banking, and investment facilitation. Participants also agreed on the importance of addressing barriers to trade and developing a clear roadmap for stronger economic engagement.
During the meeting, Ishaq Dar stressed the need for deeper bilateral cooperation that could help both countries achieve sustainable economic growth. He underscored Pakistan’s commitment to increasing trade with Bangladesh by diversifying products and expanding market access. Sheikh Bashiruddin, on his part, highlighted opportunities available in Bangladesh’s growing economy and assured support for initiatives that encourage joint ventures and mutual growth.
Meanwhile, Dar is also scheduled to meet Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus later today to continue discussions on strengthening bilateral relations. Furthermore, he will hold a separate meeting with Touhid Hussain, Advisor at Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These interactions are expected to broaden cooperation not only in trade and investment but also in areas of governance, policy development, and regional economic integration.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing Pakistan-Bangladesh relations through practical steps and constructive engagement. Officials agreed that enhanced economic cooperation would benefit people of both countries while contributing to broader regional stability and growth. The meetings in Dhaka are seen as part of ongoing efforts to build lasting partnerships and open new avenues of progress.
