LARKANA: It has been revealed in a report that the sewage water is still being released into Ghar Wah (water drain) due to negligence of Larkana Municipal Corporation (LMC) and district government in Kambar.
Ghar Wah is basically an irrigation water drain which is coming out of rice canal to supply clean water in the area of Kambar as the underground water is already salty hence unfit for human consumption.
According to reports, as many as 140 sewerage pipes on right side and 110 on left side of Ghar Wah have been found which is used to discharge the wastewater into these water drain.
Due to continuous flow of polluted water, these irrigation drains are converting into sewage drains which has proved to be hazardous for human health as it leads to various disease and also subsoil water become arsenic.
However, this water is also used by farmer for irrigating their lands.
The alarming state of water supply and sanitation in area is creating major health hazards for the entire population and young children are particularly at risk, the report states.
Moreover, the number of cases hepatitis C and D patients is already higher in the area than other parts of Sindh.
Likewise, other irrigation water drains such as Abri Wah and Dodai Shakh are also facing similar problem.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan’s (SCP) water commission has already declared that 80% of underground water of Larkana is contaminated which is worrying sign for the locals.
The locals demand the Sindh government and LMC to immediately take action in order to supply clean water in the area.
